To understand the principles of palliative and end of life care and the role of syringe drivers in supporting symptom management, comfort and person-centred care.

To recognise the indications, benefits, limitations and safe use of continuous subcutaneous infusion in accordance with current UK guidance and evidence-based practice.

To understand medicines management principles, including commonly used medicines, drug compatibility, safe administration, documentation and controlled drug responsibilities.

To identify appropriate infusion sites, monitor syringe drivers safely, recognise common complications and apply infection prevention and risk reduction measures.

To understand professional, legal and ethical responsibilities relating to consent, mental capacity, communication, governance and multidisciplinary working in syringe driver care.

To promote safe practice, reflective learning and continuing professional development in order to maintain competence, patient safety and high-quality end of life care.
